Schedule changes for the 2024 UCI Downhill World Cup show semi finals on qualifying day as well as more points for those who qualify.
The published schedule for the opening round of the 2024 UCI Downhill World Cup at Fort William sees semi finals running the same day as qualifying, with finals the only event on the Sunday.
Semi final points are now available for all riders that qualify.
Fort William will be the first round to trial the new schedule and the new schedule itself was released as tickets for the event went on sale. Semi finals are now on Saturday, the same day as qualifying, with finals for all four categories on Sunday. Elites qualify first, leaving them more time to get ready to go again for semi finals that afternoon.
All three days have training sessions in the morning before any racing. In double header events, this now means that all downhill finals are on the same day, rather than the Juniors racing in the week, but also moves Junior finals to the main event day too.
2023 saw a few of riders lose out because of expiring points and limited points for semi finals. The good news now is that all riders get points for semi finals, regardless of their end result. Adam Brayton was the highest profile rider to come unstuck with the new rules, but 2024 should see this issue resolved.
