The owners of iconic cycling brand GT Bicycles, Pon Holdings, will sell off their current inventory as riders and staff are let go during a pause for the company.
GT Bicycles will exist in name only in 2025 as their owner, Pon Holdings has paused the brand, with product development shelved and riders let go, with staff redundancies imminent.
News broke last week that the GT BMX team had been let go, something which sounded warning bells ahead of the Festive break. Now it’s reported that their parent group, Pon Holdings is putting the brakes on the iconic brand. Some riders have announced their departure as sponsored athletes, whilst other, higher profile riders have yet to. It is expected that staff will be laid off before Christmas.
Over the years, GT has boasted the likes of Steve Peat, Eric Carter, Fabien Barel, Nicolas Vouiloz, Jess Blewitt, Katy Winton, Wyn Masters and many, many more. It’s a massive shame for a brand that seemed like it was about to come good again as it reigned in its top tier racing outfits and focused on its independent dealer network.
It’s understood that Cycling Sports Group, the entity that GT was split from as it joined Pon, will handle warranty and customer support going forward.
