OneUp Components’ Unique Wave Pedal is Here.

At first glance, the OneUp Components Wave pedals might look like their flat pedal predecessors, but there’s something unique hiding in plain sight.

Neither concave, nor convex, OneUp Components’ Wave pedal is actually both. No longer simply relying on pins for grip, the design of the new Wave pedal actively promotes improved grip.

Squamish-based OneUp Components are known for making things that they want to ride and as a result, their kit is usually a reflection of the riding they’re accustomed to. Whether it’s their ultra-smooth V3 dropper, comfy AF 35mm carbon bars or super slim Clip pedals, there’s always something about OneUp kit that stands out.

OneUp Components have launched clip pedals, hubs, new bars and droppers in the last year, and now they’ve added another game-changer in the form of their Wave pedals. Whereas most flat pedals rely on large concave platforms and shin-mangling mega pins, the Wave pedal has a hybrid concave and convex platform and angled pins to provide support for drop-heeled riding.

Based on the familiar flat pedal platform OneUp have offered for many a moon, the Wave is a forged and CNC’d 6061 body on a cromoly, ED-coated axle running on the tried and tested IGUS and bearing combination. These are the same internals as used on the Clip pedal.

The forward concave holds the foot and prevents it from sliding forward, while the raised portion allows you to readjust your foot without having to remove it completely. The rear is sloped to promote that heels-down foot position for more power and control. Here, the foot is held in place by the pedal, not just the pins.

With the heels down position, normal vertical pins are angled rearward, with the angled pins of the Wave pedal, they are designed to sit vertically when in this position. The pins are also hollow hex which means mud will push through them rather than fouling, and are backwards compatible with the original alloy pedal.

Keep your eyes peeled for an R&D interview and a full review in the coming weeks.
