Bosch Launches CX-R Motor and Power Updates for CX Motor.

Bosch have launched a new motor in the CX-R alongside updates to their existing Performance Line CX motor to keep in the ever-evolving e-bike motor game.

Both the existing CX motor and the new CX-R motor from Bosch will be capable of delivering 100Nm and 750Wh peak power, an increase of 15Nm and 150W on the fifth generation CX motor.

Bosch Performance Line CX-R

Key features:

  • 100Nm torque
  • 750Wh peak power
  • 400% support
  • Race mode
  • New EMBT+ mode
  • Magnesium housing
  • Ti axle
  • Ceramic bearings
  • Drivetrain decoupling

Now the cream of the Bosch crop, the Performance Line CX-R motor offers 100Nm torque, 750Wh peak power and, in race mode, 400% support up to top speed. You also get race mode designed for, yes, you guessed it, racing. For anyone looking for a more nuanced power delivery, the new EMTB+ mode is based on rider input, where pedal input is analyzed 1000 times a second, cadence and torque sensors, plus inertial sensors measure in six dimensions to provide the best power delivery.

Beyond the gadgets, the new motor has a magnesium housing with a titanium axle running on ceramic bearings. Designed for smoothness, strength and reliability, the CX-R motor weighs in at 6lbs (2.7kgs). Bikes with the new Bosch CX-R motor will be available from August this year.

Bosch Performance Line CX

Key features:

  • 85-100Nm torque
  • 600-750Wh peak power
  • Up to 400% support
  • eShift available
  • Integrated Kiox 400c display

The Bosch Performance Line CX doesn’t really need any introduction. It’s been powering ebikes for some time and is now in its fifth generation. There’s plenty in this latest round of updates to make this just as relevant as the CX-R above.

Software updates available from July mean that torque can be adjusted between the standard 85Nm to the CX-R’s 100Nm, with peak power similarly adjustable between 600 and 750Wh. Support can also be increased to 400% like it’s Race sibling. Bosch state that running the CX motor with the same power will, unsurprisingly, increase load, wear and reduce battery life, meaning reduced range and potentially, more reliability issues.

You also get a new EMBT+ mode that offers a more intuitive ride based on improved cadence and torque data. The Kiox 400C display now integrates into the top tube, meaning no more small televisions on the bars too. In addition to this, the Performance Line CX motor will offer eShift for the first time, with gear shifts available while coasting.
