Stogies are a small Scottish brand making technical clothing that doesn’t break the bank, combined with some interesting graphics, the Melted Tech Trousers are no different.
Partner to the Stogies Melted Tech Jersey Pete tested in March are the Melted Tech Trousers. Whilst they’re intended to be used as a set, just like the jersey, they’re perfectly serviceable as a standalone.

Like their running mate, the Melted Tech Jersey, Stogies’ Melted Tech Trousers are designed to be lightweight and breathable but also not fall to pieces at the first sign of a crash or bramble. Made of a 4-way stretch Proflex abrasion and tear resistant material with laser cut perforations certainly show their intent.
The waist is high and elasticated with a popper and zip closure on the front. Pockets are big enough for keys and a phone with the zips here being quite stiff but it certainly means that you’re not going to lose anything. The elasticated lower cuffs also keep trail debris and the wind out. Anyone wanting to wear knee pads underneath will find plenty of room, with the interior of the knee feeling bulkier and slippier than other trousers. This can lead to some sweat on the knees without pads, but it’s certainly not a grumble.
While the brown, black and yellow might still be a marmite look, at £80 they’re cheaper than most trousers of this calibre and they’re not cheap and cheerful either. They’re cheap and actually pretty good. They might lack the sheer sophistication of other riding trousers but they’re comfy enough for all day use, stand up to daily riding and you’ll soon forget you’re wearing them.

Stogies have done it again with a mix of high performance without the associated price tag. Lightweight riding trousers that go the distance and don’t cost the earth.
