Limitlass Launch Legacy Fund for Professional Development in MTB.

Despite taking a fallow year in 2026, the multi award-winning Limitlass organisers aren’t dragging their heels as they launch the Limitlass Legacy Fund.

Three bursaries of £250 each will be available to help fund coaching, guiding, mechanic or leadership courses in mountain biking, courtesy of the Limitlass Legacy Fund.

The fund is open to anyone who can attend the Limitlass Festival, is open to applications from now until 31st March 2026 (23:59).

We’re funding the next wave of women and non-binary leaders in mountain biking. The Limitlass Legacy Fund offers 3 x £250 bursaries towards MTB leadership, guiding, coaching, or mechanic qualifications — helping more people gain skills, confidence, and real opportunities to support others on bikes.

What the fund supports

Each bursary provides up to £250 towards course fees only for training that builds leadership and professional skills in mountain biking. Examples include:

  • MTB coaching qualifications
  • MTB guiding / leadership awards
  • Mechanic / maintenance qualifications (including MTB-specific courses)
  • Trail building courses
  • Other relevant MTB leadership training (assessed case-by-case)

Not covered: travel, accommodation, kit, bikes, clothing, or general living costs. If you’re unsure whether your course is eligible, include details in your application and we’ll assess it fairly.

Eligibility

To apply, you must be:

  • Women and non-binary people only (inclusive of trans women)
  • 18+ at the time of application
  • Resident in Scotland
  • Applying for a qualification in MTB leadership, guiding, coaching, trail building or mechanics
  • Booking training with a recognised provider

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and especially encourage applicants who face barriers to accessing training (financial, geographical, confidence, under-representation, caring responsibilities, or lack of local opportunities).

How it works

1) Apply online

Complete a short online application form. We’ll ask about the course you want to take, why it matters to you, how you’ll use it, and any barriers you’re facing.

2) We review applications

Saracen Bike Sale Leader April 25

Applications will be reviewed by the Limitlass directors (and we may include an external adviser for additional fairness). We’ll select recipients based on need, potential impact, and alignment with Limitlass values.

3) Book your course, then claim

Recipients who have been selected book and pay for their course, then provide a receipt/invoice to Limitlass. We will reimburse up to £250 directly to the recipient.

Course completion: recipients are expected to complete the course. If you do not attend or do not complete the course, you agree to refund the bursary (unless exceptional circumstances apply — we’ll handle those with care and common sense).

Timeline

  • Applications open: 14th February 2026
  • Applications close: 31st March 2026 (23:59)
  • Recipients notified: by 12th April 2026
  • Reimbursement window: Within 30 days of course purchase

This funding is intended to support courses taking place in 2026 or early 2027. Successful applicants must complete their course by May 2027.

What recipients agree to

We want the Legacy Fund to inspire others and show real impact. If you’re awarded a bursary, you agree to:

Provide proof of course purchase (receipt/invoice) for reimbursement

Complete the course (or refund the bursary if you do not complete it)

Share a short written piece afterwards (a blog, statement, or Q&A — we’ll keep it simple)

Allow Limitlass to share your story on our website and social channels (we’ll agree wording and boundaries with you before publishing)

We’ll never pressure you to share anything you’re not comfortable with. We’ll agree what’s shared and what isn’t.
